Reba McEntire joined Team Reba artist Danny Joseph to deliver a “breathtaking duet” on the season finale of The Voice on Tuesday evening (December 10). Together, the coach-contestant duo delivered a stunning rendition of “You Don't Know Me” by Ray Charles.
Joseph began his journey on season 26 of The Voice when he performed “I Put a Spell On You” by Screamin' Jay Hawkins during the blind auditions. His rendition earned a four-chair turn and Snoop Dogg’s “block,” which he used against fellow first-time coach Michael Bublé. Snoop Dogg, McEntire and Gwen Stefani competed for Joseph to join their team. Joseph, who is from London, England, and now lives in Dallas, Texas, earned praise from all four coaches after his performance.
“I’m very competitive, and I work real hard, and I’ll help you any way I can,” McEntire said. “We’d have a great time. I’d love to have you on my team. …I really wanted him on my team. He had a great range, raspy, sexy-sounding. He was wailing on the guitar, which I absolutely loved. I think he’s very talented.”
After selecting McEntire as his coach, Joseph went on to perform songs by Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, Amy Winehouse and other powerhouse artists. Ultimately, Joseph made it to the top 5 in the 26th season of the hit competition show. He said in a heartfelt message to McEntire before the winner was revealed: “I just wanna say thank you so much from the bottom of my heart (for) believing in me, picking me through every round. It’s a dream come true to sing with you. I’m so thankful for this opportunity. You’ve been the best coach I could’ve asked for. Thank you.”
