Amy’s daughter, Stachira, decided she wanted to go by a different name at school.
Stachira is her given name from her mom in Haiti, and it’s the only name Amy has ever known her by. It’s also how she’s known everywhere outside of school. But at school, she decided to change her name to Diamond. At her school, they asked if there was a nickname or another name you’d like to be called, and she chose Diamond. It happened at the beginning of the school year, but Amy didn’t learn about it from her. She had signed up for an extracurricular club and they had a roster sheet where everyone signed in and Amy sent an e-mail about paying the dues and said she was Stachira’s mom. She got a reply back saying there was no one named Stachira signed up and figured out she was talking about Diamond. Even though it’s been months, Amy still gets caught off guard by it sometimes. When Amy meets her friends and their parents, they refer to her as Diamond, but Amy does not call her that.
Bobby Bones asked if members of the show were given the chance to change their name to what it would be. Amy doesn’t want to change her name. Eddie would want to change his name to Willie, but he has too much under his real name to ever officially do it. Lunchbox would want to change his name to Sex Symbol and be called Sex for short. Bones would not choose to change his name.
